In 2014, instead of making a single New Year’s Resolution, I decided to focus on doing one really awesome thing every quarter. I wanted a way to be more mindful about making adventurous and brave choices all year long, and I wanted a resolution that could offer me fun, learning, and great memories. Here’s the list of awesome things that I was able to do this year:
- Presented at TEDxJNJ
- Ran the Los Angeles Marathon
- Started my blog
- Snorkeled in the bioluminescent bays of Puerto Rico
- Became an aunt (ok, maybe not my doing, but it deserves to be on the awesome list)
- Got placed as a Provisional Advisor for incoming members of the Junior League of Boston
- Was selected to run the 2015 Boston Marathon for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
- Spoke at a conference in China
- Had my bike, stolen in 2010, returned to me by the Arlington Police Department (also not my doing, but it was awesome)
- Took a hot air balloon ride in Turkey
- Achieved frequent flier status on three airlines (this one kind of stinks except for the early boarding and free luggage privileges)
- Ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas half marathon on the Strip at Night
- Went to my first NHL game (at which the Boston Bruins cruelly lost in overtime)
- Began training for the aforementioned 2015 Boston Marathon

I’d say this plan worked pretty well! At the very least it kept me scouting for opportunities to try something unusual or new. I might not have applied to speak at TEDx or serve as a Junior League advisor without that outlook. When I was planning trips, I specifically looked for experiences at our destination that would be unique and unforgettable. I’m going to try to keep this attitude of openness to new experiences no matter what my 2015 goals turn out to be.
What were your 2014 resolutions, and how did you do? What will you try to accomplish in 2015?
